Signage and Information Systems

This week’s assignment was to find signage or information systems that don’t quite work or that might be confusing.

This is a store front in Chinatown.

Apparently, they do do lamp repair.

In the clutter of these signs, one of, if not, the most important sign, gets lost. “Watch your step!”

At this store front, the “real” door is actually a few doors down.

This sign always bothers me when I’m riding on my bike up Bowery.

In this sign in front of a school in my neighborhood, aside fromĀ  switching between right-aligned and center-aligned text, what bothers me the most is the “Enquire Within” arrow. The placement is very awkward. Also, I don’t think the extra exclamation marks add to the urgency of this sign. I think the large, bold, “Attention” in red is enough with them. I also wonder if the word “Attention” is needed at all. When I first saw this, I thought it was about something life-threatening.
